Dogs - along with cats - are without question, the best loved animals in the world. Throughout history, both canines and felines have been our constant companions. They have guarded our homes, kept them free of rodents and most of all, loved us unconditionally. There is an on-going debate on which of the two makes a better pet - and the answer depends on whether you ask a "dog person" or a "cat person".

I'm a cat person and currently there are more cat owners than dog owners in the UK. Where I live now, Hungary, I'd have to say that while they do love dogs and cats, cats are pets and dogs are seen as working animals - they must guard the house and are invariably kept outside the house and NOT treated as pets as much as in the UK. This raises the question of whether they 'love' their dogs as pets or 'love' their dogs in the same way a shepherd loves his sheepdogs.
