I am not one to give advice here, I'm single and not really attentive to my own needs in needing a partner, but here goes, i'll try.
What kind of relationship do you have ?
I know this would not even be a thought if I were in love.
Love is hard to come by, but easy for some.

You could wait for him, and carry on with your life, dust photo frames of you two over time, and keep everything in place for him, and be there for him when he is released.

I enjoy my own company, this is good enough for me, there is a loneliness within, but this I don't go out to find a quick filling for this, I don't want to learn the hard way about how some people just don't suit each other.

Of course you could find company with other people, but if you have a good thing already, I would treat it as precious and hope my partner feels the same. I would be close with friends, and wait and use the friends as a pillow for comport in the time of your boyfriend's absents.

But if your going to "move on", it would be polite to explain this to your boyfriend, becuase a man and a women share similar feelings, so you have to be sensitive to this.

You really don't have a true commitment with him if your thinking of moving on, you not married.
you asking this question shows your a good person.

I would wait, basically because I would hold on to the parnter I already have, and be so happy for this.

But then again, I understand the need in needing to have a person by your side, you really don't have true love with your partner. Both of you should feel the same.

But if you want to be with anyone just for the time your apart, be with friends, that's if you too are close partners. You can work on the relationship after he is released, write and keep in touch while he is locked up.

You can also move on, there is nothing wrong with that.
Just be open about it, and I hope you both agree.
