To answer the question you have to consider how sound is produced. Well of course you need vibration for sound to exist and i'm almost positive if a tree fell there would be some sort of vibration. But vibration is not the only thing needed to produce sound, there has to be a sensory receptor. Take the human ear for example; sound waves enter the ear, vibrating the tiny bones in the ear and then transformed into an electrical signal by the organ of corti to be sent to the brain for analysis. If there was nothing around to transform the sound waves and vibrations then really there would be nothing heard... get it?
or you can think of it differently... and you'd come to the boring conclusion that yeah there still would be sound... i prefer to think and actually have a good explanation for my answers... thanks

i just want to add one more thing to my last answer... the sound waves would still exist until they would eventually dissipate or get lost or intertwined with other sound waves

If you sneeze, and there is no one else around to hear it....do you still make a sound?? Of course, the sound is made by the friction of the tree moving through the air, as well as the thud sound it makes while landing on the ground.

Well no if you sneeze the person sneezing is there. The real answer is no when a tree falls and no one is around to hear it for all we now this sound dosen't exist so no we don't know there ever was a sound so no there is no sound to us. Also i now this i heard it from a professer at Whitworth University
ARE YOU STUPID, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WRITE, THEN DON'T WRITE IT!!!
Yes, there is a sound when a tree falls in the woods, even if no one is around. Whether a person is there to witness it happening makes no difference...it still falls, there is still a sound.
If you were there and no one else, well no, only you can say it made a sound but any one would say no, I heard nothing
