Our entire body is connected to the brain. It receives all sensory data, touch, smell, sight, taste and hearing. It is responsible for hormonal control and the regulation of our organs. In one sense the eyes are a part of the brain, information collected by the eyes are sent via the optic nerve to the brain. In a physical sense they are not. If your eyes were removed (God forbid!) then it would not affect the functioning of the brain but simply remove a source of information for the brain.
