Oz is correct from a theoretical point of view. The chances of it happening though are as close to zero as makes no odds... it won't happen. The American catholic church has split and purged itself so many times that it has little influence on the heart of the catholic community in Europe where the Pope resides and where the spiritual heart of the church is.

American catholocism (and general attitudes towards religion) is also viewed as misguided at best and wildly inaccurate at worst from a European POV (point of view).

Without wanting to be blunt there is more chance of a homosexual black (coloured/african american - take your pick I'm not PC about this) atheist being elected President of the US than there is of an American becoming Pope.

It's never going to happen.
