Not all mammals bear live young, although almost all do. The exceptions are the Platypus and the echidna, which lay eggs like a bird or reptile. These animals are called monotremes. Other characteristics of monotremes are legs that extend out, then down and lower body temperatures than most mammals. All are characteristics of reptiles as opposed to mammals.
