Answer A Question
Did any dinosaurs travel in herds?
Answers
Hypsilophodon are mentioned to travel in herds since many were found buried altogether, and if you ever saw the Movie Jurrasic pack, you would have noticed the giant dinosaurs traveling together, and the real tiny ones that cause a feeding frenzy.
When dinosaurs teavled in herds, it helped them when it came down to being eaten and when they wanted to find food.
Unfortunately, the simple fact that dinosaur fossils have been found in the same sedimentary layer semingly buried together is no indication that they travelled in herds, though, of course, this would be a logical assumption. However there is no direct evidence to back this up. Examination of many of the sedimentary deposits where this has been found to occur indicate that the original bodies were depositied there as a result of flooding or flash flooding where the bodies would have been drowned and then deposited on-mass close together.
Better evidence comes from fossilised dinosaur tracks which show evidence of multiple animals travelling side by side, in single file and as a randomized group with small numbers straying away from the main herd to engage in opportunistic grazing.
Jurassic park gives about as much accurate information about dinosaurs as Armaggedon does about meteors i.e. 3rd grade make it simple for the masses. The theory that dinosaurs moved in herds is derived from the fact that what one of the differences between lizards and dinosaurs is the design of their hip which the same as a birds hip. Archaeologists simple drew a conclusion that as birds today flock (herd) together so did dinosaurs albeit on the ground and without wings. There is also the fact that the dinosaurs typically found in mass burials or leaving fossilised trails were herbivorous and as we know the vast majority of existing herbivorous animals alive to day also move in herds. A lot of archaeology is drawing conclusions from comparison of fossilised anatomy to anatomical properties known to exist today as well as drawing conclusions from a comparison of related evidence.
Nobody really knows for absolute certain that they did but, like the theory of evolution, the evidence existing for it and the massive level of agreement points to the fact that some dinosaurs did indeed travel in herds.
