How can I keep my child from being obese? 1 year 9 months ago

Obesity in children has become a major issue in our society. kids are continually inactive and in from of the television playing games, watching movies or in front of the computer doing the same. The important thing to remember from the very beginning is that it is your job as a parent to model a healthy lifestyle. Let your kids see you workout and eat healthy. They will follow. Do not allow snacks while watching t.v. or playing games. Kids lose track of time and the amounts they have eaten. It is especially important that parents remember it is their duty to continually build their child's self-esteem. My parents came home every night and sat in front of the TV. Not a good influence. If you are active, by nature your kids will be too. If you can belong to a health club it is all the more better. We belong to the YMCA. The benefits are tremendous. Kids get taught from a young age about exercise, healthy eating and being active. If you can?t afford a health club, go to a park or area track. Bring the kids out of the house. They need the fresh air. Sign your kids up for extra-curricular activities. They benefit from the friendships they make as well as the activity.

What are some science activities I can do with preschoolers? 1 year 9 months ago

Check out searchwarp.com for more information or ideas-Article # swa80506.htm The amazing things that parents and teachers alike can do with preschoolers to teach or open their horizons to science amazes me. The first experiment I would like to mention is the volcano explosion. It is awesome, messy and fun. It completely delighted my five year old and two year old as well as my thirty year old (husband). Who doesn?t love blowing stuff up. This is the simplest activity to do that I have seen in a long time. You start with a carbonated beverage. We chose the off brand red drink because lava is red, right? You then take a tube of Mentos and drop it into the two-liter. The result is awesome! Soda will shoot out the top at unprecedented heights. The Lava Lamp blob is another fun experiment. It is something that even toddlers will enjoy. You take a empty water bottle or some cool coke bottle test tubes and fill it 3/4 full of vegetable oil. Then fill the remainder with a little water. The water will sink. Then add a Fizzy Bath tablet (any color-blue, red) and put the lid on. The bath tablet will form to the water and look like a blob. You can shake it, turn it upside down, etc. The color will float back and forth.

How do you do an scavenger hunt for Easter? 1 year 9 months ago

The most awesome thing my husband taught me is the scavenger hunt. It is the coolest thing we do every Easter. Instead of traditionally hiding Easter baskets in your child?s room every Easter, we hide an egg. Inside the egg is a clue. The clue is usually a brilliant rhyme that will lead the child or children to the next egg. If you have more than one child, there first clue should all lead to the second clue where they can do the hunt together. There is no age limit on this activity. We started when our son was barely two and my brother?in-laws still do it when they are home from college. With the younger kids, the clues have to be simple and basic and you will have to read them to them. As each clue leads them from room to room, you can leave little gift trails, like a lollipop or a book or an egg filled with money. They enjoy getting things as they go and it builds even more excitement. We have hid eggs in the bathroom, refrigerator, dryer?you name it, we have hid an egg there. You can be as creative as you want on the rhymes and the hiding places. Here is an example of one of the rhymes we used: ?For your next clue, you won't need to go far. Head to where mommy's shoes are!?
