The regular season ends on September 30th, after all 30 teams have completed their 162 game schedule. The three teams with the best overall win-loss records in the American and National leagues from their respective divisions - East, Central and West - make the playoffs. The fourth place team in each League qualifies as the Wild Card team. The four American League teams pair off and play a best-of-5 game series, then the two winners of those series play each other in a best-of-7 game series to determine the League champion. That team is said to have "won the pennant" for the League. The same process takes place in the National League. The American and National League champions then meet for the World Series, which is a best-of-7 game series. I have to agree with JulieSue on this one. Dogs are wonderful pets and just about the perfect companion. My dog is honest, loyal and faithful. She loves me even when I'm in a bad mood, she doesn't talk trash about me to other people as soon as I leave the room. She also has a sense of humor and a lovable personality. I have yet to find these qualities in a human companion. There are things I could do without, like the excitement of 4 a.m. and the occasional gift of a dead bird on my patio. I wouldn't trade my dog for the world. I think dogs are awesome but that doesn't mean that I like ALL dogs. My neighbors dog is a yappy little white haired mess and I hate him. He bites. He yaps. He pees on the rug. All things that I will not tolerate from a pet. I think the most important thing here for you, Asker, is do you like dogs? Do you have a lifestyle in which you could accomodate a very dependent pet? Dogs are not very self sufficient, they require lots of care and attention. If you are a very busy person than you may consider just liking dogs and not owning one. I hate to see people who only have a dog just to own it. They keep these sensitive creatures tied up in their back yards sitting there lonely and pathetic in the pouring rain just waiting for a friend to come along. That's cruel.
