Does Infogirl understand the answers she's rating? 8 months ago

Thank you infogirl for your response. I am sorry that some took this as a attack or something, I did not know how to e-mail you directly and assumed that it would get your attention. I could have worded the headline question differently. It was written with a smirk but reading the headline now it does appear rude and an e-mail would have been better if the option was available. I am brand new, started last night and liked the format of this Q&A site so I jumped in. I find info pretty quick on the internet and kind of like the aspect of researching questions. My understanding of the opinion/advice option would be for answers that are not supported with facts or studied research and are merely what a person thinks. I answer questions on these type of sites with either what I have learned before through study, or what information I have found through trusted sources. Most of the time I support my answers with a link to help someone who would like more detail, but some questions do not require it. I have come to the conclusion that the opinion/advice option for UnAsked is vague in description of how to use it. For example: Someone asked who discovered the pulse. Current widespread belief is that it was the Egyptians. No one can prove who indeed discovered the relation of the pulse to the heart and so this is the logical answer at this time. This is how I answered. Yes it is an opinion, but it is not just my opinion but that of the majority. As of current research this would be the answer. Could this still be marked as opinion, because it is indeed still that, of course. but this would also mean that the majority of questions in the world are opinions unless based on mathamatics which is the only thing that can ever be proven to always be truth, (1+1 will always be 2) Following that train of thought, even evolution is still just a theory and in turn and opinion even though it is currently taught to the majority as fact. Then offering an option for opinion as a rating would seem redundent as an effective part of this site because the majority of answers, unless based on math, would all be opinions not matter how much proof was offered. (Even scientific facts can be proven as false.) Yes, thats a bit deep and probably unneccesary information, but it's a quirk nonetheless of the opinion rating option that could be looked at closer for a more descriptive definition before this site launches out of BETA. I have always had initial respect for those that have been with a particular site for sometime as they are obviously more versed in how to use it through experience. With that said.. To Milander: With respect to infogirl as this is not directed at you, everyone, even those who have done something over and over for years are occasionally wrong. They can be considered an authoritive figure having the knowledge of experience but it can not be assumed that experience means a person is always right. This is not meant to spark a debate. I asked does infogirl understand the answers she's rating. My response was that I felt the opinion/advice button was meant for answers based on the responders personal opinion and at the time, I did not know that infogirl had been doing this for sometime and thought maybe she didn't understand the rating system as I understood it. The same can be said does sunstreeks understand the use of opinion/answer option. Because the definition is not clearly defined and can be interpreted in different ways, it can be said that both of us understand it, or neither of us, or either or, etc. Because it will vary depending upon the way in which a person interprets the FAQ. Perhaps this is something for the creators of this site to further address before BETA is over. This response by the way is an opinion and I'm betting that in some way shape or form, someone will disagree with part or all of what I've said. LOL :)

Infogirl, Sorry to call ya out but there is no way to e-mail you directly... This advice may be good for anyone who doesn't fully understand how to use the advice/opinion button Please understand that when you rate answers, that the opinion/advice button is in place if the persons response is their own opinion or advice. If the answerer is offering facts, even if they appear to be the opinion of someone else, such as say, historians, fact keepers, organzations who run expensive statistical evaluations and present their findings, they are not meant to be choosen as opinion/advice just because the answer appears to be something that one could disagree..
