Because when the first white man "discoverd " the new world they claimed the land as there own. Even thoe the Indians were all resdy here long before the white man. The Indians were refered to as savages because they were not as tecnolicly advanced as the white man. The Indians became Native Americans when the collinies became The United States of America. They live on the reservations because thats the only place left for them and thats only because the land wasnt wanted by the white man.
