I believe it is Christ's Mass combined and cut short, but I am still looking for confirmation as to why a birthday celebration would end up with this name, which is, of course, why I am here. Christ's Mass would work just as well for the Easter celebration.
Dear Sirs/Madame,
My son and I were wondering what the "mas" means in the word Christmas? An abbreviation of Mass?, the celebration of the birth of Christ the Lord?

Merry used to mean "mighty" as in Robin Hood and his merry men. Mas is hebrew surname for day of so Merry Christmas= Mighty day of Christ
Everyone is celebrating and it's a holiday for all. the X-mas is for the one who has no reason to celebrate giving the person an 'X' reason.
