It is best when you have missed your period or a week after your due to start. HCG is different in every woman. One woman can take it dayof missed period and be + and another could do the same and get a - You'll know when the time is right. If you are planning on kids than I know it can be excited to do it early, but it will bum you out when you see a -, I would wait until you missed your period or atleast a a few days after you were supposed to start :o) Hope this helps

Home pregnancy tests can be effective within a week of conception. Usually, it is better to wait for several weeks, or until missing a menstrual cycle.

You can actually take one a week and a half after conception and it will show up. I already knew I was pg from the doc but I wanted a HPT so I could see the results for myself and it was only a week and a half after conception. So sometimes it will work that early.

herghost, that is NOT correct.

brainychick, you should wait at least a week after you miss your period before testing. even though home pregnancy test claim to be very accurate on the day or even before a missed period, the level of the pregnancy hormone that those test are able to detect is not very high...therefore, for the most accurate results, you should wait about a week after missing a period before testing.

Actually, you don't have to wait a week after your period is due to take an HPT. Depending on the kind you buy it is possible to get a + at approx 10 days past ovulation...which is one week and days. To be 100% sure, take it on the day that your period is normally due. If it's a negative and you still aren't satisfied, wait two days and take another one. hCG start generating in your system the moment the egg implants and the amount double in your system every two days. If you still keep getting negatives, go to your doctor for a blood test just to be sure.

a week after your missed period ... you have to wait for conception to take place so even testing with test such as first response who says it can tell you 5 days before a missed period sometimes you haven't even reached conception and can get a false result
