A noun is a part of speech. It refers to a person, place, thing, quality or action. It can be modified by an [adjective] and can be the subject or object of a [verb]. It can also be the object of a [preposition].
For example, in the sentence "Jim looks around," Jim is the noun. In the sentence "That jump was incredible," the noun is jump, an action and a word that is more commonly used as a [verb].
