You should have a anti virus, a firewall installed on your PC, and regular updates for all software you use.
Do you need an internet anti filter? It depends on your country, and it's acceptance of the internet on all levels, but then again no computer is really safe when it comes to a deliberate attack.
Your country should advise you to use software to filter out, potential harmful material, including some advertising cookies - programs and sites in general - But what is accepted can differ with other countries.
I recommend not using the internet as a secure source for communications, or private matters, you really cannot guarantee privacy, even with the governments idea of protection is useless when it comes to anti software .
