Jesus spoke these words; (John 15:14) 14 YOU are my friends IF YOU do what I am commanding YOU.
John 15:10 IF YOU observe my commandments, YOU will remain in my love, just as I have observed the commandments of the Father and remain in his love.

If one mouths the words? Under God" but does not do what God commands, is that one under God anyway?

(Matthew 23:1-4) 23 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 2 ?The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. 3 Therefore all the things they tell YOU, do and observe, (but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.} 4 They bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.

(Matthew 5:33-37) 33 ?Again YOU heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ?You must not swear without performing, but you must pay your vows to Jehovah.? 34 However, I say to YOU: Do not swear at all, neither by heaven, because it is God?s throne; 35 nor by earth, because it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King. 36 Nor by your head must you swear, because you cannot turn one hair white or black. 37 Just let YOUR word Yes mean Yes, YOUR No, No; for what is in excess of these is from the wicked one.

Interesting question.Im afraid this is down to a matter of opinion. People have been brainwashed by religion for manymany years (my opinion) as a way of controlling the people and installing fear in them. The pledge of allegiance is just another way of getting people to conform to the standard which makes them managable. However if you are an agnostic of atheist you may agree with some of the principles of the pledge but may not want to pledge to someone you dont think exists. So maybe it should be taken out and replaced with 'the government of the united states'

Still, even being atheist, I don't care. I mean, come on! It's just 2 words!
