Red hair is the least common hair color. The color ranges from a vivid strawberry to deep auburn or burgundy. People of Northern, especially the British Isles are most likely to be redheads. Red hair is caused by a mutation of the Nc1r gene, a recessive gene, and has the highest amounts of phaeomelanin and low levels of eumelanin.
Redheads have the thickest individual hairs.
