Neanderthals do not exist now. But they did. Why they disappeared in not really understood but current theories include:

1) We (homo sapiens) interbreed with them

2) With the end of the last Ice age, the adaptations their bodies had evolved to cope with a cold environment left them unable to adapt to a warmer one

3) We exterminated them all, genocide.

4) They simply died out as changing climatic conditions pushed them into smaller and smaller habital areas, the resultant competition for resources led them to commit racial suicide.
